The New Year, 2022

A little over 10 years ago I began my first blog. Here is some of the information on this.

I was online a while back, and discovered a great article on “Can Reiki Help Your Chronic Pain?” It was written by Wyatt Myers with a medical review by Pat F. Bass 111, MD, MPH.

Wyatt had discussed with Dr. Schueler, that Reiki seemed almost too good to be true & that it sounded a bit “new agey”, however, the laying on of hands on or slightly above the body by a qualified Reiki Practitioner can help to bring relief for chronic pain and can make you feel better than you have for many years.

If you want the full article you can find it here in the archives.

Sometimes I find it helpful to look back on a different time. The thing that always amazes me is that Reiki always stays the same. Thirty-seven years ago I began my Reiki journey. At first, I used Reiki to better balance myself and to heal many issues I had to work on. I then wanted to pass this information on to others so that they too could feel better. Today in the past few years of Covid19 I mainly offer Reiki via long distance. People are totally amazed at how well this works. Because there are no distractions when a person is on my healing table and asking questions, Reiki long-distance offers a full quiet treatment of either 30 or 60 minutes. My clients are often surprised by how powerful it can be. The opportunity to lie on your own bed and get comfortable makes it pretty convenient too. Many report that they went to sleep for a bit.

I have tried over the past few years to keep myself balanced through yoga twice a week. Thank goodness this was offered from Wellspring via Zoom in Stratford. These are gentle classes that help to keep muscle tone plus offer relaxation. I don’t know about you but these times have been trying and sometimes my mood is not always the best. We are all a work in progress. I am trying to be more patient with myself but there are times that being at home all the time is hard on the nerves.

Bella with boots

I am grateful for the distraction of our puppy Bella. She has a passion for Kleenex and toilet paper. She will look in any pocket for these and lip gloss. You always have to put everything up higher, however, she is a clever one! She will streak past you with something in her mouth and your job is to chase her. You may try to corner her, but she is pretty slick. She has always made us laugh at her antics. Our latest laugh was watching her try to walk with her new boots on. It’s a step, kick kind of motion. Another fun adventure is when Kona the boy from next door comes over to play. He is a chocolate mini schnauzer who is 15 lbs to Bella’s 5.3 lbs. They do a lot of chasing and mouthing but no damage.

Christmas dinner

I was grateful to be able to go to Barrie over Christmas to visit my son, daughter-in-law and the two Grands! It was such a joy to witness Charli and Kennedy opening their gifts. They were so excited as their screams of delight indicated. The food was amazing. Shea put out a spread of hors d’oeuvres. She and I loved minced meat tarts and got our fill of those as no one else loved them. The traditional turkey with all the trimmings was so delicious plus two kinds of pie (I had both) Oh and I got so much chocolate too! You can never have enough chocolate. We got a beautiful framed professional picture of the family. It is on our wall with all the other family pictures. It had been a while since we had seen everyone and we were grateful that we were able to see everyone again. We had rapid tests before we saw them and did not kiss anyone. Hugs were pretty awesome. Now with Omicron it is unlikely that we will see them again for a while.

My gift to Jay and Shea was a book I had written from StoryWorth. Every week you would be given a question and you would write a blog along with pictures to round it out. I loved the fact that I was able to bring my Great Grandparents into my stories along with pictures of my parents as little ones. It was important for me to write down my history while I had the time to do so. That way my family will have documentation of their family and some of the things I did in my life. What a fun project this was. This was all a gift from my niece Melanie Chapple. Writing a book was always something I had wanted to do. This format was easy and helped me to focus every week for one year.

I have found that during these trying times I have had to find projects to do to keep invested. I hope that you have been able to do so too. Having family or friends who feel like family helps you maintain your balance.

Memory ornament

The ornament is in honour of all our loved ones lost including my parents.

I just want to celebrate the life of Betty White who exemplified a person who was always positive and always make us laugh. She loved people and she loved animals of all types. She lived her life fully and I am sure had no regrets. At the age of 99 on New Year’s eve she joined the love of her life her dear husband Alan Ludden. On January 17 she would have been 100 years old. May we all strive to be our most positive selves and be more like Betty. Thank you Betty for being such a positive influence on my life and so many others as well. You will be missed!

May 2022 be the year that we finally get some more freedoms in our lives. I salute all the medical staff that have stretched themselves to their limits to help protect their clients. May we finally get ahead of Covid19 and may we all do in our power to protect not only ourselves but our community as well. Our health care system is at a critical junction. As a former nurse, I feel for my fellow co-workers and wish I could help out. Due to an autoimmune disease and asthma I cannot. I can however keep on encouraging people to get their vaccines. Yes, I am fully aware of all the controversy but for myself, I rely on the science.

Be well and stay safe.

Sue
