We are officially into September now and it seemed like we went from the high 30 degrees down to 15-degree temperature overnight. I must say getting rid of the humidity was a definite plus. Don’t get me wrong. I love the heat; however, the humidity does me in. Cutting the grass required multiple cooling-off periods with lots of fluids.
The month of August has been very special for me in so many ways. For the first time in 26 months, I got to travel by plane to New Brunswick to see the Grandchildren. So happy that with the two vaccines I got to do this.
I had my birthday celebration on the 17th with everyone. Not only did I get a delicious chocolate cake with chocolate icing (definitely death by chocolate), but my daughter Lindsay also made homemade seafood chowder. It was Delicious! Lindsay even had a special dinner to celebrate all the times we missed seeing each other for holiday’s i.e. chicken, mashed potatoes, lots of vegetables and pie (strawberry rhubarb)!!
My Granddaughter Ellie turned 12 on August 18th. Not only did she get a birthday breakfast, presents from Grandma AND taco supper, BUT she got the covid vaccine! This 12-year-old understood why she needed to get this more than many adults. Her Grandma and Poppa both have compromised immune systems and she wanted to keep us safe. So proud of her!
We had many adventures while I was there. We visited Silver Lake nearby for lots of swimming. I showed them how to do handstands and some synchronized swimming moves. Sam and the twins, Mia and Maddy, all did well. Ellie got a bit frustrated as she kind of looked like the leaning tower of Pisa. I know that she will work on it until she gets it. Grandma managed to do a face plant into the sand when trying to do a forward flip! I had a scratched red nose for several days!
I got to hear Ellie’s piano playing while there. I knew she played but had not really heard much of it before now. What a joy to hear.
We also went to Murray Provincial Park on the Northumberland Strait. We had lots of fun swimming in the ocean. The rocks on the shoreline were difficult for me to walk on and get out of the water. I had to have assistance from Lindsay. The kids played in the sand. It was a beautiful place to visit.
We also saw the tides coming in and the sandpipers on the Bay of Fundy. What a magical place. The whole East Coast is incredible and if you have never been please put it on your bucket list.

I was home for a week watching the road in front of our home being ripped up for sewer work, then Jim and I and the trailer headed north to Barrie’s KOA. We got to see Grandchildren Charli and Kennedy again. There are so many things to do at a KOA. We went swimming a lot in the two pools. Two great playgrounds were available. They had $2 ice cream and you can bet that we took full advantage of this!
Charli went to a special birthday party, so Kennedy and I attended the festival they had on that Saturday. She was a wiz at finding stickers on items which were then turned in for some rubber duckies. She gave one to her sister. A hamburger ducky and fries ducky. So many fun games to play and prizes as well. It rained for a bit, so we watched a movie on our DVD and played Snakes & Ladders. We also fed some chipmunks. One came right up to my hand for sunflower seeds. They were pretty cute.

We decided to separate the girls so that they each had their own bed like they were used to at home. It has been many years since we made the dining table into a bed. Kennedy just loved it.
On Sunday Jay & Shea brought dinner for us. They loved having a quiet weekend just as a couple. There were so many memorable moments. August was filled with family. Feeling incredibly blessed!
Stay tuned for my next blog as I have some exciting news!!!
In the meantime, enjoy the last days of summer. Stay safe, especially to the kiddos as they return to school. If Covid has taught me anything it is that life is short. Treasure your friends and family and protect them in any way you can.
