The other day we had the summer solstice. The beautiful full moon radiated down through our skylights. We anticipate summer all year round. This year we had pre-summer, i.e., Spring with some hot hazy days.
The annual beachcombers migrate to various Ports in search of fun, sun and waves. Somehow things seem lighter. I am not sure if it is just that we get more sun, or the fact that it doesn’t get dark until after 9 p.m. Either way, I like both of these. Not having to layer up for the cold of winter helps too.
Barefoot is the way, except when you have to drive somewhere! Such freedom!
This month we got to see all our Grandchildren all in one place. My daughter with her four children came to the Newmarket area from New Brunswick as her husband attended events in Toronto. My daughter-in-law with her two came as well from nearby. We had our trailer out for the first time.
Our trailer had never seen such action! Ten of us in there at one time! Not crowded at all since the oldest was only 7 years old. Dollarama toys were a big hit. You have to love that place for Frisbees, bubbles, and sand toys.
Homemade hamburgers (gluten free) on the BBQ and of course lots of cookies, popcorn and the like were a big hit. It was great to be able to spoil them all at once. They all played on the slides, swings etc for well over an hour AND they all got along. I heard that wasn’t the case the day prior. There were some tired little people that day.
June was also sad as we said goodbye to a neighbour and friend. He had fought the good fight but in the end he was finally able to rest in peace after a long battle with an illness. Times like these make you appreciate every day.
Our back patio and retaining walls were built by him with the traditional bricks and mortar, so a part of him is seen daily. Take the time to appreciate people around you. Tell them how much you care as you never know what fate has in store for anyone.
Case in point: Orlando, Florida. A place of grieving showed us both outpourings of love for people lost, and some negativity as well. Try in your own life to hold all people dear, no matter their race, colour, religion, sexual preferences etc. We have not walked in their shoes, so judging is not up to us. As one person humorously said, “God has not retired and made us the ultimate being!” We can have our own beliefs without negating others’ beliefs. They are as passionate about their beliefs as you are. That IS what makes the world interesting. How boring it would be if everyone felt the same way about everything!!
A belated Happy Fathers Day to those wonderful Dads out there, or in heaven having completed their work. I have many wonderful memories of times of fun at the cottage or special events like holidays. Dads are so important in a child’s life. I see my son and son-in-law being exemplary Dads.
Have a wonderful summer!
