Reflections on Being Grateful for Family and Friends

Being grateful for family and friendsTomorrow my youngest granddaughter turns one year old! I remember holding her 20 minutes after she was born. So tiny, so adorable and so loved already. Her big sister was looking out for her, and being amazing at 4:30 in the morning. Photos were taken of these precious moments. My daughter-in-law did an amazing job at birthing and my son was right there with his wife. So proud of all of them! As this is the last of my Grandchildren this was indeed a special time with her.

The journey of a year in the life of a newborn is so amazing. From this helpless little being to a force to be reckoned with who talks and walks and gets into all kinds of mischief. The bond between sisters was developed. Yes there were some moments, but you could see how much they care for each other. When the older sister was in time-out for kicking her sister, little sister stood outside her door looking accusingly at Mommy. Who knew that Mommy would be the bad guy in this scenario! Though all my Grandchildren live at a distance Skype has been an awesome thing. As well many moments have been recorded and shared.

It is so important to keep in touch with your loved ones. If you do not then you will miss out on all these precious moments. Especially with little ones, these moments may never happen again. Loved ones may not always be family members. They could be people that you have chosen to be in your life.

I know that I was lucky enough to have both birth family and my work family. Though retired I often get together with some of my work family. You share a bond when you spend so much time with one another. Problem solving can be done with friends, and support is there through tough times and great times.

So as you enjoy our last summer fling with beautiful weather, remember to be grateful for the life you have chosen. Be positive about the deck you have been handed. Often through adversity we learn, grow and find out who our true friends are. This can be a teachable moment to help others learn how to cope. Sometimes we can be a lifeline for others. Be positive in your life and surround yourself with positive people who will support your growth and new ideas. You are a unique and special person who is so important in this world.
