Holidays Are Just Around the Corner

I cannot believe how quickly October became November. I truly appreciated the blasts of summer that we have been getting lately. I am sure that with the warm lakes we will be getting a lot more wet snow; however, I personally love every moment of this beautiful fall weather.

Holidays are near

Did you get a lot of trick-or-treaters? We were down by half this year. I am not sure if it was because it was on a Monday with school happening the next day. I only had a handful of little ones. I adore watching them toddle up to the door in their super-cute costumes.

Watch out now as quickly the Halloween “stuff” gets put away and the Christmas music begins piping through the malls.

This year the holidays will be a bit different for me as I am having right knee surgery on November 28th. Because of this I am not putting up the tree that resides for most of the year in our crawl space. Instead I have three small ceramic Christmas trees that will grace the house, plus a couple of stockings.

Every year, I look forward to putting up the tree and—most of all—to decorating it. My daughter and I have made many Christmas ornaments together over the years, and it is fun to see them all again.

Traditions are Important at the Holidays

Traditions for select holidays are important: they bring back wonderful memories of times when my children were little. They now all have children of their own and live far away. Thank goodness for Skype as it allows me to see some of their reactions to their gifts.

I know that it is a bit early to think about the holidays; however, truly they are just around the corner! The holidays can be a difficult time of year for many people: some people are far from their relatives, or have some family members who have passed on leaving a gap in the family threads. This situation is especially true if this is the first year that a loved one has been gone. Allow yourself time to grieve for this loss. You can help yourself through this time by remembering all the little things that they did to make the holiday memorable. Some of their crazy antics can be remembered with love. Know that they are as close to you as your thoughts.

This is a good time to also get support from your friends and other family members. Make sure you can go out and do some fun things with your friends. People tend to isolate themselves when they are going through this process. You may have to push yourself a bit, but you will be glad you did when you have a laugh or two and forget your losses for just a moment. This does not mean you are forgetting the person who has gone. It just means they are not foremost in your thoughts all the time, a situation which can truly be exhausting.

I often think of my parents who passed over six years ago. They will be remembered with love and the memories of gifts they tore open and totally loved. Now I can smile thinking about them. It was not so easy the first couple of years! Most of all, be kind to yourself.

I will be writing my next newsletter later in January as well as resuming Reiki/Allergy work sessions as I need some time to recover. Best wishes, prayers, Reiki and other healing modalities will be gratefully received for November 28th and the following week if possible. I truly appreciate you and gratefully accept any help I can get towards my recovery.

I wish you and your families a Very Happy Holidays 2016. May you have a peaceful, loving Christmas. May you take the time to enjoy this holiday and not worry too much about the meals or the cleaning beforehand. Friends and family just want to spend quality time with you. Try to relax and enjoy the moment as these times can be precious.

Take care my friends!
Yours in health,
Sue
