Gratitude

gratitudeI’m writing this on Thanksgiving Day! Tonight we are going out for turkey dinner at New Sarum Diner in St. Thomas. We look forward to this every year. A home cooked meal which includes pumpkin pie too! For two of us this is a reasonable choice.

We connected on messenger and Skype to see the grand babies again. I feel so much gratitude that we live in this era so we can keep in touch. It is so important to do so when family lives far away.

We have been blessed with an extended summer this year. We went in our trailer up to a KOA in Barrie. We had our 5-year-old granddaughter sleep overnight two nights with us. It was such a pleasure to get to know Charli better. Children teach you to play more. We often need this reminder as well. Because it was so warm we got to swim in the pool. Being the end of September, this is almost unheard of! Charli had a nap when she went home as did Grandma & Cra Cra (Grandpa.) Playing is hard work, as you know. Charli is getting to be proficient in frisbee throwing!

Last night when it was raining I saw a spectacular display on my cedar trees. The water was beading up on the trees and the lamp post close by was illuminating each rain drop. They looked like they were lit from within. It was so beautiful. I felt gratitude for being unable to sleep well and was given this gift.

Gratitude is a theme I am working on this month through the Women in Business group, where I am a member. It is a reminder to look at the gifts we receive everyday. Some days we are not in a good frame of mind. These are the days that are especially important to look closely for any positives in our life. It could be a kind word from a stranger, or something in nature that totally enchants you.

Nature is a place where you can recharge and feel more peaceful. Mine happens to be trees, or water. Both are preferable. Take the time to just sit quietly and let the sounds soothe you. Hearing the song birds all around me, feeling the sun on my face, and looking at the trees and flowers all help to bring peace. We need these moments so we feel refreshed when we go back to the challenges of daily living. If you have not been out in nature for a while, do try to do so again. You will be amazed at the difference it will make in your life.

I hope you had some quality time with your family over the Thanksgiving weekend.
