I was reminded this week how easy it is to get discouraged and to put yourself down for things you did or did not do. I think we all start out with good intentions, but along the way things get lost in the shuffle.
My coach, Brenda MacIntyre, reminded me to not beat myself up and as well to not beat myself up for beating myself up! Certainly a run on words, but this is very succinct! I know at times this is something I would do, but fortunately not as much lately. How about you! This is certainly one major thing to work on if you can see yourself in this scenario.
I actually have this saying sitting on my keyboard as a constant reminder!
Lately I have been trying to start each day in a positive way. Planning certainly helps to keep things on track. Along with the planning is taking the time to enjoy what is around you. I know this last snowfall looked absolutely spectacular. Did you take the time to enjoy the trees dressed in their winter whites? Did you watch your pet running through the snow with great abandon? Did you get out with your children to enjoy the snow? Or did you, like some, just say, “#### Not more snow!”
Don’t worry; spring is just around the corner now. You can almost feel it. The snow will give a refreshing drink for the beautiful spring flowers to come.
I believe one of the gifts we are given is that every day is a new day. It is not tomorrow or yesterday. It’s a clean slate of possibilities. If you take the time to plan ahead for this day, so much can be accomplished: new ideas, new directions, meeting new people, reconnecting with true friends. So much is out there. I am grateful for the whole new network of people I have met in this past year who have been supportive.
Speaking of grateful, what are you grateful for?? It is so important to acknowledge some of the great things that happen in your life everyday. No one knows, like you, just how much you have achieved. I was blown away by a young lady this week who gave her first ever speech and only looked at her notes a couple of times. AND she was very funny!!! Kudos to her for her bravery and for amazing content; I saw a whole new side of her.
I was also reminded this week that life is short. Friends have lost loved ones. Many have rich memories of their times together and will treasure these forever. These memories will help them cope over the next several weeks. I too went to a service for my neighbours who had deeply loved each other. Their urn-two hearts entwined. These times are reminders to keep in touch with loved ones and friends, and to be grateful for the time which has been given to you. Like in the snow scenario, enjoy your day. Live your life well with no regrets. Change regrets if you can. If you can’t, let it go, breathe, and don’t beat yourself up!
Have a wonderful week!
