Easter with its Easter eggs and religious events have come and gone. I hope you enjoyed this time of year. There is often a gathering of family to celebrate. As my children and Grandchildren live far away, parcels were sent to them.
I had to laugh at my oldest Granddaughter (6 years old) who lives in New Brunswick. She had created a song about Easter and how it is not just about the candy, but lessons from God. Imagine the surprise on some door to door religious members when she started singing her song. My daughter said to them, “I think we have it covered!” Daddy is a minister and she had obviously listened to him.
I visited my son’s family in Barrie over the weekend. It was great to bond with my two little Granddaughters. One will be 4 in a week or so and the baby is just 16 months and getting into and onto everything. The eldest felt that all Grandma did was play with her! That is a problem??? To have two pairs of little arms around my neck was a joy to remember. The youngest always takes some time to warm to me, but when she came over to give me a hug and kiss I just melted. There isn’t anything better than a child’s trust and love.
I also had a chance to catch up with a friend of mine, whom I worked with over 36 years ago. We watched each others children grow up and experienced the joys of Grandparenthood. As we are both very spiritual it is always a pleasure to connect on this level as well. We had super delicious fries at the 400 Flea Market, and then moved on to ice cream at Kawartha Dairy. Later we went for a walk on the beach at my parents’ former cottage. The lapping of the gentle waves and the sun shinning on us made for a beautiful day. It was extremely cold, but we were dressed for the occasion.
Nature and Memories
On our walk there was a new large cottage with a trespassing sign. Isn’t it tempting to put your toe over that line where the video camera is? That was the imp part in me—but good behaviour prevailed. When we got to the point we noticed a small spit of land out in the lake (Georgian Bay) that hadn’t been there before and it even had some plants growing on it. Nature sure is persistent. There were so many new cottages which really were large houses. I still love the ones that are cottages. They seem cozier somehow than the mammoth buildings now built there. As we walked you could still see the snow on the ski slopes of the Blue Mountains across the Bay. It was an end to a perfect afternoon.
So many childhood memories are held here and will remain in my heart forever. My Dad’s birthday is this month so being back at the cottage is a major connection. There are times I cannot believe 7 years have gone by since he left on his eternal journey. Anniversaries remind us of the people we cared about and who were a part of us. Time heals but memories do not leave us, and for that I am glad.
So as April showers have turned into snow this year, remind yourself we had a wonderful winter with very little shovelling to do. Unfortunately, our spring flowers are not too happy with this turn of events. They will return next spring and hopefully last longer. Don’t forget to leave your snow tires on for a bit longer!
Happy Spring! Enjoy every moment that you have been given!
